Look Out For … We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough

We Live Here Now by Sarah Pinborough - cover“With her latest, Pinborough presents a medically fragile young wife and her merry husband moving into a new home that may have secrets darker than their own.”

Recovering from a near-fatal accident, Emily and her husband Freddie move from London to a home in Dartmoor called Larkin Lodge. The country home is gorgeous … striking even, yet Emily immediately feels something isn’t right.

The fires go out for no reason, the old boards creak at night, and books fall off the shelves. And there’s a terrible presence Emily feels in the room at the third story. These strange occurrences only happen when Emily is alone, so are they truly even happening? Emily isn’t fully well yet, and her postsepsis condition can cause hallucinatory side effects. Though she can’t fully trust her own senses, Freddie doesn’t noticing anything strange at all and is just happy they can have a fresh start.

Emily begins to believe the house is haunted, perhaps by someone who was murdered in it. There’s no evidence of any wrongful death, yet the uncanny events pile up while her marriage crumbles. Emily becomes obsessed with learning the truth about Larkin Lodge. Houses have secrets, but so do Emily and Freddie.

And they live here now.

Why we’re excited about this book:

When it comes to creepy stories with diabolical twists you’ll never see coming, Sarah Pinborough always delivers the goods. She is the author of Behind Her Eyes, 13 Minutes, Insomnia, The Forgotten Gods trilogy, the Fairy Tale series, Cross Her Heart, and Dead to Her among others, with short fiction appearing in such publications as Hellbound Hearts, House of Fear, and Black Static. With her latest, Pinborough presents a medically fragile young wife and her merry husband moving into a new home that may have secrets darker than their own. Alex North (The Whisper Man) says: “I loved We Live Here Now. A modern gothic about a haunted house—and the haunted couple who move in. Clever, beautifully-written (of course), and creepy as [heck]. When you reach the gut punch ending, you can imagine Edgar Allen Poe himself applauding.”. Ruth Ware (One Perfect Couple) says: “All marriages have secrets. All houses have a past. But not like this one. This is Sarah Pinborough at her mind-bending best.”, and Harlan Coben (Think Twice) says: “Genre-bending and cunning, We Live Here Now is a riveting modern Gothic, full of the clever twists and surprises that have become Sarah Pinborough’s trademark. I’m a big fan.”
