“With his sharp wit and eye for distinctive setting and dialogue, Buehlman unleashes his own brand of horror and adventure in a fully realized fantasy world.”
Kinch Na Shannack is deep in debt. He owes the Takers’ Guild a small fortune for his education into thievery. His skills in knife-fighting, wall-scaling, lock-picking, lie-weaving, trap-making, as well as a few small magics are owed to the Guild, and that debt has forced him to hide by the old forest road, lurking to rob travellers that happen to cross his path.
Today, Kinch Na Shannack picked the wrong mark.
Kinch tries to rob Galva, a survivor of the goblin wars, handmaiden to the goddess of death. He barely escapes with his life, and now Kinch finds himself entangled with Galva’s quest: searching for her queen. The journey will find them facing off krakens in the dark waters, and goblins that feast on human flesh.
Why we’re excited about this book:
Christopher Buehlman has made quite a name for himself in the horror fiction world. The author of Between Two Fires, The Necromancer’s House, Those Across the River, The Lesser Dead, and The Suicide Motor Club, some know him as the comedian Christophe the Insultor. Buehlman also won the Bridport Prize in Poetry in 2007. With his sharp wit and eye for distinctive setting and dialogue, Buehlman unleashes his own brand of horror and adventure in a fully realized fantasy world. Andrew Pyper (The Demonologist, The Homecoming) says: “Nobody combines the lyrical and visceral quite like Christopher Buehlman. The Blacktongue Thief is fantasy of distinction―in its wit, its hard magic, its chiseled detail. Prepare to be transported.”, and Brent Weeks (the Lightbringer series) says: “The Blacktongue Thief is fast and fun and filled with crazy magic. I can’t wait to see what Christopher Buehlman does next.”
Forthcoming from Tor Books 25 May 2021, The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buelhman is available for pre-order now.
