“With this latest novel, Knight presents a nightmarish story of hippie cults and dark secrets pushing a social worker to the edge of sanity.”
In 1973, a small commune in West Burma, WI., consisting of mostly women and children, literally disappears overnight. Sociologist Sarah Bisset, on sabbatical, is drawn to West Burma, curious about the disappearance of the hippie Children of Demeter, an unsolved mystery even today.
Running from her tattered and torn personal life, Sarah is eager to get lost in the secrets held in the isolated farmhouse. But each revelation leaves Sarah questioning her own identity, and she begins to lose control of her sanity. The consequences of diving into the web of deceit and numerous cover ups about Demeter House could cost her everything.
Why we’re excited about this book:
EV Knight is quickly becoming one of the freshest and brightest stars in the horror fiction world. The Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Fourth Whore and Dead Eyes, Knight’s short fiction has appeared in such as anthologies as The Toilet Zone, More Lore from the Mythos, and The Monstrous Feminine: Dark Tales of Dangerous Women. With this latest novel, Knight presents a nightmarish story of hippie cults and dark secrets pushing a social worker to the edge of sanity. Laurel Hightower (Crossroads, Whispers in the Dark) calls Children of Demeter: “A chilling look into cults, feminine magic and sacrifice. Fast paced with fresh ideas, Knight’s tale takes the reader in unexpected and creepy directions.”, and Brian Kirk (We Are Monsters, Will Haunt You) says: “I’m a sucker for stories about mysterious cults and small towns harboring dark secrets, and EV Knight raises the bar with her mesmerizing novel, Children of Demeter. This is a confident, and beautifully written, novel that sucks you in as the chilling truth behind the Demeter cult is masterfully revealed. Expect to stay up long after the lights have gone out devouring this dark mystery. That’s where EV Knight wants you, and where her monsters lie in wait.”
Forthcoming 5 August 2021 from Raw Dog Screaming Press, Children of Demeter by EV Knight is available for pre-order now.
