Why we’re excited about this book:

Horror fans should be well acquainted with John Hornor Jacobs. Author of This Dark Earth, Southern Gods,  and The Incarcerado Trilogy (The Twelve-Fingered Boy, The Shibboleth, and The Conformity),the Fisk & Shoe fantasy series (The Incorruptibles, Foreign Devils, and Infernal Machines), Jacob’s work has appeared in Surreal South, The Book of Cthulhu, Playboy magazine, and numerous other publications. With his latest effort—two tales in one book—Jacobs’ vision dives deep into the horror and corruption of the human condition as only he can. Andy Davidson (In the Valley of the Sun) says: “A Lush and Seething Hell expands the borders of cosmic horror and reveals John Hornor Jacobs for what he’s always been: a quiet master among us. A beautiful, haunting book full of beautiful, haunting prose. This is the best of what horror can be.”

Why John’s excited about this book:

“I’m very excited for A Lush and Seething Hell to be released for a few reasons. First, it will be my return to writing horror after writing six books out of genre—a young adult series and an epic fantasy series, both of which were very dark though neither fell squarely in the horror field. Second, while tangential, both of these short novels in A Lush and Seething Hell exist in the world of Southern Gods, my first novel, and it was fun revisiting some of the themes (and arcane and ancient evils) from that book. Third, both of these tales have elements of historical fiction—I worked very hard researching both, going so far as to include my research sources and inspirations in the back of the book—and I’m anxious to share this with the world, since I did invest quite a bit of labor into it. Finally, I am ready for it to be loosed upon the world because often when writers begin a project, they have an ideal in their mind of how the project will turn out and then by the completion of the project, they have fallen far short of the idealized notion that began the whole process. In A Lush and Seething Hell, because these stories are shorter than novels and written to be companions, I think the distance between the idealized concept I began with and the final result is closer than any of my previous books. I have hopes my readers will agree.”

Forthcoming from Harper Voyager, A Lush and Seething Hell by John Hornor Jacobs releases 8 October 2019 and is available for pre-order now.
