“Baxter’s latest effort features a new playground, The Gulp, where weird is the norm and outsiders rarely survive.”
Plenty of weird things are going on in The Gulp. For the residents, it’s just the way things are in the Australian harbour town. There are some maps that don’t even show The Gulp. No one who lives there ever calls the town by its proper name, Gulpepper. Nothing there is as it seems.
A trucker thinks the stories are just to scare him, until he actually gets to The Gulp. Things turn dangerous when four backpackers get invited to a rock band’s party. A dealer loses a shipment of drugs, and he has only 48 hours to fix the mistake. Things don’t go as planned when teenage siblings try to cover up the death of their mother. A rock fisher makes a strange catch under the forever blinking eye of an old lighthouse.
Five tales about The Gulp.
Some towns will just swallow you up.
Why we’re excited about this book:
Alan Baxter is one of the best-known and most consistent horror writers working in the genre. Author of Devouring Dark, Hidden City, the dark supernatural Alex Caine Series Bound, Obsidian, and Abduction, and the duology, RealmShift and MageSign, Baxter also dabbles in supernatural noir with Manifest Recall and Recall Night, the cosmic horror noir, The Book Club , a sci-fi/noir novella, Ghost of the Black, and a gonzo Ozploitation creature feature novella called The Roo. Baxter’s latest effort features a new playground, The Gulp, where weird is the norm and outsiders rarely survive. Kaaron Warren (The Grief Hole) says: “Alan Baxter’s fiction is dark, disturbing, hard-hitting and heart-breakingly honest. He reflects on worlds known and unknown with compassion, and demonstrates an almost second-sight into human behaviour.”, and Christopher Golden (Ararat, Red Hands) says: “Step into the ring with Alan Baxter, I dare you. He writes with the grace, precision, and swift brutality of a prizefighter.”
Forthcoming 12 Janaury 2021, The Gulp by Alan Baxter is available for pre-order now.
