Jeremy C Shipp

Jeremy C. Shipp is the Bram Stoker Award-nominated author of Cursed, Vacation and Attic Clowns. His shorter tales have appeared or are forthcoming in over 60 publications, the likes of Cemetery Dance, ChiZine, Apex Magazine, Withersin and Shroud. Follow him on Twitter @JeremyCShipp.

What first attracted you to horror writing?

I’ve always loved darker tales. When I was a kid, some of my favourite films had dark elements. Films such as Return to Oz, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and Dark Crystal. When me and my brothers were children, we would often play pretend using characters like a mummy, the grim reaper, and a floating mouth that could transport people into other dimensions by eating them.

Attic Clowns by Jeremy C ShippWhat is your most notable work?

I would say either Cursed or Attic Clowns.  If someone was interested in my work, but they didn’t know where to start, I’d recommend either of these.

What are you working on now?

Next year, you can expect to see from me a new monster-themed short story collection, a horror anthology, a comic book, and maybe even a web series.

Who do you admire in the horror world?

I’m a big fan of Jeff Strand and Larry Blamire. Horror comedy is my favourite thing, and those two do it so well.

Do you prefer all out gore or psychological chills?

I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to gore. There is some gore in my stories, but never gore for gore’s sake. I prefer surreal images and psychological chills and metaphysical mayhem.

Why should people read your work?

If you don’t read my work, the Attic Clown will throw flaming pies at your face, and while he’s at it, he might transmogrify your pet into a balloon animal. If this isn’t incentive enough, my tales are horrifying and sweet and weird and fun. They’re filled to the brim with monsters and creatures and strange characters. If you enjoy the movies of David Lynch, Terry Gilliam, Hayao Miyazaki, Takashi Miike or Chan-wook Park, then you might like my books.

Recommend a book.

I recommend Idols & Cons by S. S. Michaels. Michaels is a brilliant writer. Check her out today.
