Novel of the Year
Winner: Small Town Horror by Ronald Malfi
Runner-up: American Rapture by CJ Leede
“What an honor! I want to thank all the readers who dared spend time in the eerie bayside town of Kingsport, and who deemed this novel deserving of such an award. The This Is Horror Award is so important because it’s a culmination of fans’ appreciation of the genre; and I appreciate them all right back. Thank you!”

THIS IS HORROR NOVEL OF THE YEAR
Novella of the Year
Winner: Kill Your Darling by Clay McLeod Chapman
Runner-up: Coup de Grâce by Sofia Ajram
“To me, Kill Your Darling is a hand-carved box of a story, full of the raw imperfections that come from something crafted by a flesh-and-blood technician. It’s small, but made from the heart, filled with all the love I could pour into it. The truest gift for this particular piece has been to discover others pouring their love into the story as well. To have this novella receive such a distinguished distinction as this year’s This Is Horror Award is truly, truly an honor. Thank you…”
—Clay McLeod Chapman, author of Kill Your Darling

Short Story Collection of the Year
Winner: This Skin Was Once Mine and Other Disturbances by Eric LaRocca
Runner-up:You Like It Darker by Stephen King
“This is Horror is my favorite resource for authors of horror and dark, disturbing fiction. It is a tremendous honor to have my work recognized by them, especially for a deeply unpleasant collection of stories I continue to hold so close to my heart.”
—Eric LaRocca, author of This Skin Was Once Mine and Other Disturbances

Fiction Podcast of the Year
Winner: PseudoPod
Runner-up: The NoSleep Podcast
“We are incredibly honored to be selected for the This is Horror Award for Best Fiction Podcast. Firstly, we want to recognize the amazing work put into our fellow nominees: the Nightmare Magazine Podcast, The NoSleep Podcast, The Other Stories by Hawk & Cleaver, and Tales to Terrify. We each are the iron which sharpens iron, making the horror community stronger by making available a broad variety of horror stories.
For those who haven’t listened to us in a minute, there are three projects we’d like to highlight. Since the public domain clock is moving forward again, we set aside January to highlight stories that have just entered the public domain. In the final few months of the year, we share stories from anthologies and collections published in that year, because we want to do our part to help shine a light on independent publishers and the books of short horror they publish. And we’ve released a couple of stories this year in collaboration and coordination with the NightLight podcast. There are also some pulp stories from black newspapers that we’re going to be sharing soon, so keep an ear out. We look forward to another year of amazing fiction: we can’t wait to share it with all of you.”
