This Is Horror

News Round-up Week Ending 26 June 2026

Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week …

Coming 3 July from author Brad Ricks and Crystal Lake Publishing, The Night Crew III: Hunting Ground

Something is slaughtering people in the Arkansas wilderness—and even the Night Crew may not survive what they’re about to find.
When mutilated bodies begin appearing in the Ouachita National Forest, Chief of Police Roy Henderson knows local law enforcement is out of options. His only hope is to call in the Night Crew—a covert team of supernatural operatives led by Michael, a vampire still learning what it means to live with the monster inside him.
What begins as a hunt for a rogue werewolf quickly spirals into something far more dangerous.
As attacks escalate around the town of Mena, Arkansas, Michael finds himself battling on two fronts. In the real world, a growing supernatural threat is pushing the town toward panic. In his mind, mysterious visions connected through blood are pulling him into a terrifying mystery he cannot explain.
Meanwhile, a grieving father forms a vigilante militia, a local police officer struggles to keep supernatural secrets buried, and a park ranger may hold the key to stopping a massacre before it begins.
To survive, Michael must hold his team together, uncover the truth behind the killings, and confront forces more dangerous than anything lurking in the forest. Available for pre-order now in eBook, with other editions to follow, you can guarantee your copy here.

For the first time Hot Goth Summer comes to Derby’s Quad

This July sees the first run of Hot Goth Summer, a weekend festival of the Gothic presenting a wide range of activities over three days at the city’s popular QUAD venue. Made possible by support from Derby Dracula and Aspect, the 3rd to the 5th July is going to be an essential stop for anyone with an interest in the darker side!
The Dracula’s Bazaar market will be a lynchpin of the event, running for free across all three days and featuring a wide range of stalls selling a range of clothing, accessories, stickers, craft items and much more! The first floor of QUAD will be completely taken over with Dracula’s Bazaar, making it a one-stop Gothic shop.
Throughout the weekend QUAD will also be hosting the Hot Goth Summer Film Festival, taking in some of the very best vampire films ever made, including Interview with the Vampire, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, The Lost Boys, The Hunger, Salem’s Lot and The Lair of the White Worm. Weekend film passes are available, as well as tickets for individual screenings throughout.

Out today from author John Ward and Crystal Lake Publishing, Scareville: Stay Out of Fort Dread

Keegan and his friends are determined to become the next big thing in live streaming.
But chasing views can lead you somewhere you should never go.
When they discover that their favorite urban exploring team—the LAF Crew—is planning a livestream inside the abandoned military compound known as Fort Dradd, they can’t believe their luck. Locals call it Fort Dread for a reason. No one knows what really happened there. Whether the stories were fact or fiction.
They tune in to watch the stream.
At first, it’s just empty halls and peeling paint, but then they watched on in horror as something came after the LAF Crew. Now Keegan and his friends have a choice: forget what they saw…or go to Fort Dread themselves and uncover the truth.
But some legends don’t want to be exposed. And some places were meant to stay abandoned. Available today in eBook and paperback, you can pick up your copy here.
