Look Out For … Till We Become Monsters by Amanda Headlee

“Set against a blizzard in the dark forest, Headlee’s tale conjures the guilt of past mistakes and the need to survive as something old and evil awakens in the woods.”

Korin Perrin knows monsters are real.

His grandmother told him so, and he’s come to believe his older brother Davis is a monster. When grandmother dies, Korin blames Davis for her death and tries to kill him. Now, sixteen years later, overwhelmed with guilt, Korin has to face the fact that Davis may not be the one who is a monster.

To right the wrong and patch things up, Korin agrees to a hunting trip with Davis. Korin, Davis, their father, and two friends, never make it to the camp. Separated by an accident, the hunters seek refuge as a blizzard whips up through the forests of Minnesota. There, the stranded hunters unleash an ancient evil as they search for safety, and each other.

Why we’re excited about this book:

Newcomer Amanda Headlee writes folklore and cosmic horror. With stories in the anthologies Consumed: Tales Inspired by the Wendigo, and Somewhere in the Middle of Eternity, Till We Become Monsters is her debut novel. Set against a blizzard in the dark forest, Headlee’s tale conjures the guilt of past mistakes and the need to survive as something old and evil awakens in the woods. Phil Giunta (Like Mother, Like Daughters) says: “With her debut novel, Till We Become Monsters, Amanda Headlee raises the genre to a chilling new level. I recommend reading this one with all the lights on.”
