Look Out For … Infested by Angel Luis Colón

“With his YA novel debut, Colón heads directly into nightmare territory with one tough Puerto Rican kid determined to face off against evil to save the ones he loves.”

It’s Manny’s last summer before becoming a high-school senior, and he’s just made the move from Texas to the Bronx. Stuck doing menial tasks in his new home, a luxury condo managed by his stepdad, Manny stresses about having to start all over with no friends and no spending cash.

Then he meets Sasha. Though she’s protesting the new building of condos, she seems really cool. And Mr. Mueller, the building’s exterminator, becomes a fast friend. Things are looking up for Manny.

That’s when the nightmares start. And Manny has the sensation like roaches are crawling beneath his flesh. Soon, building contractors go missing, and Manny and Sasha realize Mr. Mueller isn’t who he says he is. But then, maybe he is Mr. Mueller … except he died years ago in a fire right where the new building is located … a fire he set.

With time running out, Manny has to fight a deranged spectre to rescue his family before the Bronx is set ablaze again.

Why we’re excited about this book:

Readers of the dark stuff should be familiar with the work of Angel Luis Colón. The author of the Blacky Jaquar novellas, Hell Chose Me, No Happy Endings, and the short-story collection Meat City on Fire and Other Assorted Debacles, Colón’s fiction has appeared in such publications as Great Jones Street and Thuglit. With his YA novel debut, Colón heads directly into nightmare territory with one tough Puerto Rican kid determined to face off against evil to save the ones he loves. Paul Tremblay (A Head Full of Ghosts, The Beast You Are) says: Infested expertly mixes mystery and monster story with family drama and very now political concerns. It’s a thrilling, I-can’t-stop-reading page-turner. If Infested doesn’t make your skin crawl, check your pulse.”, and S.A. Cosby (Razorblade Tears, All the Sinners Bleed) calls Infested “Disturbing, hopeful, and exciting, Infested is a love letter to the Bronx, New York, that doesn’t shy away from the issues that need to be addressed. It’s as if Clive Barker’s The Thief of Always took the 6 Train.”

Forthcoming from MTV Books 25 July 2023, Infested by Angel Luis Colón is available for pre-order now.
