This Is Horror

Look Out For … Eynhallow by Tim McGregor

“With his latest, McGregor gives us an haunting heroine faced with the impossible in this tale inspired by a nightmarish gothic classic. “

It’s 1797, the Orkney Islands, and Agnes Tulloch believes she’s been cheated. Nothing is as her husband promised … the windswept place is not an island paradise at all. With four children in tow, Agnes is struggling to provide, all while her husband becomes more and more distant.

Then a stranger arrives to rent an abandoned cottage. Everyone on the island is full of curiosity. Who is this man, apparently a wealthy foreigner? Why would he want to come to Eynhallow? Now Agnes’ husband hires her out to cook and wash for the man, giving her no say in the matter. But at least some of her curiosity is curbed … seems this man-in-exile is a scientist, toiling day and night on a secret mission. She finds herself drawn to his dark, brooding charm.

Who is this stranger? His name is Frankenstein, and he’s come to Eynhallow to fulfill a horrifying obligation.

Why we’re excited about this book:

Former screenwriter Tim McGregor should be quite familiar to readers. McGregor is the author of The Spookshow series, Taboo in Four Colors, Wasps in the Ice Cream, Hearts Strange and Deceitful, The Bad Wolf Chronicles, and Lure, among others. With his latest, McGregor gives us an haunting heroine faced with the impossible in this tale inspired by a nightmarish gothic classic.  Eric LaRocca (We Can Never Leave This Place) says: “Tim McGregor has grafted something truly unexpected and haunting from the sinew of Mary Shelley’s venerated classic, Frankenstein. Eynhallow is masterful and exquisitely written with a vision wholly unique to its tar-black soul.”, and Rachel Harrison (The Return, Black Sheep) says: “Richly atmospheric with gorgeous prose and an unforgettable heroine. A gift to monster lovers everywhere, Eynhallow is a new classic.” Clay McLeod Chapman (What Kind of Mother) says: “The horror of Eynhallow is a gothic hurricane battering our bookshelves. Pray it makes landfall near you.”

Forthcoming from Raw Dog Screaming Press 22 February 2024, Eynhallow by Tim McGregor is available for pre-oder now.
