This Is Horror

Grimm Up North turns Japanese

The organisers of the Grimm Up North film festival have announced the latest in their series of twice-monthly horror double bills. The next event entitled Samurai Splatter Double Bill will be held on 17 February 2012 and will feature Shogun Assassin and Baby Cart to Hades.

Shogun Assassin has been banned, condemned and censored in the past but it has returned with aplomb for this screening in glorious high definition special edition that is a must see for fans of Asian cinema. Shogun Assassin is the story of wrongly disgraced ronin Itto Ogami, who goes on the run with his three year old son in tow. As obstacles and enemies begin to pile up, so do the bodies.

Shogun Assassin is a rescored, redubbed and reassembled version of the first two films in the Lone Wolf & Cub series and is followed on the bill by the third film in the series Baby Cart to Hades, one of the best and bloodiest examples of Japanese exploitation cinema.

Baby Cart to Hades is an action packed, hectic and incredibly violent film, featuring Ogami racking up the single highest body count for a single character in movie history with a staggering 150 kills!

This night of blood shedding, sword wielding mayhem takes place at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation building in Manchester. Tickets are priced at £6.50 plus booking fee. Showtime is 7:30pm on 17 February 2012. For further details and directions to the venue check out the Grimm Festival website www.grimmfest.com
