Part Two of the Outer Dark Symposium on the Greater Weird 2018, Saturday March 24 at Winchester Mystery House (San Jose, CA), begins with a reading by John C. Foster (00:11:36). Next, the second of four panels A Dark Matter” (00:27:24) is moderated by Sumiko Saulson and features Mark Bode, Cody Goodfellow, John C. Foster, Anya Martin, and Paul MavridesOne largely unexamined effect of the Weird Renaissance is the decoupling of The Weird from horror as the former increasingly stands on its own. This process, in conjunction with the general refusal of leading editors and scholars to offer narrow definitions for Weird Fiction, has led to a rising awareness of other modes and genres where The Weird has hidden all along, especially science fiction. The relationship between horror and science fiction has long since been mapped in essays, on panels, etc. Can we now look with fresh lenses on the intersection of science fiction and this recently untethered Weird? The episode concludes with a reading by Philip Fracassi (01:14:12).

Stay tuned for more of The Outer Dark Symposium 2018 in future episodes of The Outer Dark. Thank you to all our attending and supporting members, sponsors, and Indiegogo campaign supporters who helped make Something Weird happen for a second year.
