In this podcast Scott Nicolay interviews Matthew M. Bartlett, author of Creeping Waves (Muzzleland Press).

Show Notes

In exploring the genesis of his second collection Creeping Waves (Muzzleland Press), Matthew M. Bartlett digs deep into his ‘unnatural natural progression’ from the ‘real’ mythical town(s?) of Leeds and the Gathering in the Woods to Voices from the Trees to radio station WXXT, prime ‘presence’ Ben Stockton, the nefarious FCC and ‘future psychic fireworks’, resting witch faces, venturing back through Gateways to Abomination, his works more as mosaic novel versus story collection, being the Richard Brautigan of Weird fiction, early gratitude to Tom Breen and s.j. bagley, broadcasting Dead Air which was his first foray into self-publishing and its recent re-publication with illustrations by Yves Tourigny, and conjuring chapbooks The Witch-Cult in Western Massachusetts, Anne Gare’s Rare Book and Ephemera Catalogue, and Rangel (Dim Shores), which was selected for Year’s Best Weird Fiction, Volume 3. Matthew also contemplates the Weirdness of Western Mass, writing cognitive dissonance, his genre-jumping ‘restless muse’, and what’s next including an audio Gateways, games, another voyage to Dim Shores, venturing back into the WXXT universe, and showing a surreal side in his next collection The Stay Awake Man and Others with artist Dave Felton from Dunhams Manor Press (upcoming early 2017). Plus a WXXT listeners contest, a reading of his noirish story ‘Rampage’ from Creeping Waves, and Matthew boosts the signal for John Boden (Dominoes, Jedi Summer), Tom Breen (Orford Parish Murder Houses), Joseph Pastula (Little Oren and the Noises), and Adrean Messmer.
