The Elvis Room: Heart Attack Hotel

The Elvis Room - Check Under the NameEvery hotel has one. The room they keep free just in case a high-profile guest appears from nowhere, ready to sprinkle a little of their celebrity stardust onto the establishment. But what if you’re desperate? If you have nowhere else to go? The hotel would have to let you stay there, right?

What could possibly go wrong?

This is where Stephen Graham Jones stepped in, in 2014, to answer that question in the vividly haunting way that only he can and from here the This is Horror chapbook The Elvis Room was born. While the eBook is still available, the chapbook sold out long ago, after receiving ratings of four or five out of five from just about any horror website or magazine that got hold of it.

Fast forward to early 2016 and there was the first announcement that The Elvis Room had been picked up to be made into a film. As the rumours picked up pace and started to become more concrete, our interest at This is Horror was piqued.

The director, Andrew Schwarz, is still early in his career, having produced just one other short before (The Shack) in 2012. Schwarz started his career at Fangoria as an intern but then moved on to work as the assistant for none other than Wes Craven. It’s hard to imagine a better introduction to the workings of horror. Also on board was producer Cody Zwieg (The Lazarus Effect, The Last House on the Left (remake)). The cast was also of high calibre, starring Bailey Noble (True Blood), Spencer Locke (Insidious: The Last Key) and Keir Gilchrist (It Follows).

As with his previous film, The Shack, The Elvis Room received its US premiere at the Another Hole in the Head festival in San Francisco. The Elvis Room was shown to US audiences for the first time on 28 October and was extremely well received. The short film will be available online soon and This is Horror will bring you the link so you can watch it for yourself as soon as we have it. In the meantime, you can follow all the latest news on the film on its Facebook page, here.
