The Cutting Room: The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence)

Bully prison warden Bill Boss (Dieter Laser), leading a big state prison in the US of A, has a lot of problems; his prison statistically has the highest amount of prison riots, medical costs and staff turnover in the country. But foremost he is unable to get the respect he thinks he deserves from his inmates and the state Governor (Eric Roberts). He constantly fails in experimenting with different ideas for the ideal punishment to get the inmates in line, which drives him, together with the sizzling heat, completely insane.

Under threats of termination by the Governor, his loyal right hand man Dwight (Laurence R Harvey) comes up with a brilliant idea. A revolutionary idea which could change the American prison system for good and save billions of dollars. An idea based on the notorious Human Centipede movies, that will literally and figuratively get the inmates on their knees, creating the ultimate punishment and deterrent for anyone considering a life of crime. Having nothing to lose, Bill and Dwight create a jaw-dropping 500-person prison centipede.

Why we’re looking forward to this: There are some films that are almost beyond words, beyond description, beyond comprehension, and The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence) is one of those films. If you’ve already had the pleasure of seeing the first two movies, then you’ll have a fair idea of what’s in store, but director Tom Six has taken a detour through the darkest regions of the Twilight Zone for this one by having the characters acknowledge that the events of the first two films were in fact fiction, but that the idea of creating a 500 strong human centipede in the ‘real world’ is a winner.

Reports coming in already suggest that this is not going to be an easy film to stomach, and that Six has deliberately gone out of his way to ensure that the movie offends, but as we’re all inquisitive genre fans here at This Is Horror, there’s a morbid curiosity that means that just as with A Serbian Film, we want to see just how far the boundaries of taste and decency can be stretched.

We strongly suspect that for all but the most diehard devotees of Six’s Centipede movies that we’ll regret putting ourselves through the experience, but if there’s one thing that genre fans enjoy it’s being challenged, and we think this may be that and more.

The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence) is out now on DVD and Blu-ray.
