R.I.P. Oderus Urungus

Dave Brockie, AKA Oderus Urungus the frontman of the horror-themed ‘shock-rock’ metal band Gwar died on March 23 at the age of 50, officially confirmed by his management on March 24. He was discovered by a bandmate in his house sitting upright in a chair. His death is currently being investigated, with foul play and suicide ruled out. Gwar formed in 1984 – with Brockie as the only longstanding member – and are known for wearing horror film themed costumes on and off stage. The band are currently on hiatus.

An Honourable Guest

The Horror Writers Association has announced that Chris Ryall is to be the Editor Guest of Honour at the Bram Stoker Awards Weekend and the World Horror Convention 2015 which will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Ryall will be celebrating his ten year landmark as the Editor-in-Chief at IDW publishing, during which the company has gained market share every year and has grown to be the fourth-largest comic book publisher. The HWA is hosting the World Horror Convention is conjunction with the Bram Stoker Awards Weekend in Atlanta May 7-10 2015. Visit the official website for more information.

Split Stream

We’ve received news of Andy Stewart’s latest short film Split. Split is the follow-up to Dysmorphia (2013) which was created to a budget of £160 and received very good reviews. Stewart enlisted the help of SFX designer Grant Mason (Nightbreed, Sleepy Hollow, Hardware, Bride of Chucky, The Wolfman) to craft the make-up effects, all of which were created practically.

Curiouser and Curiouser…

The author of the best-selling Chronicles of the Necromancer series Gail Z. Martin is returning to Solaris Books with a brand new urban fantasy series Deadly Curiosities, which will be Solaris’ lead title for the summer. Visit the Solaris website for more information.
