Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week…

Frightfest 2016 Line-up Schedule Announced

As the 17th edition of horror and genre festival Frightfest draws ever closer, organisers have announced their 2016 line-up schedule, and as always it appears that we’re in for a treat.

The line-up is set to include fourteen world premieres, twenty-one European premieres and sixteen UK premieres from all around the globe—highlights of which include, amongst many others, festival opening film European premiere of My father Die, festival closer Train To Busan from director Sang-ho Yeon, Rob Zombie’s 31 and Todd Williams adaptation of Stephen King’s The Cell.

More details are yet to be announced, including retrospective screenings and guests. We will bring you this information as we get it.

The Horror Channel Frightfest 2016 takes place 25 – 29 August at the VUE Cinema at Shepherds Bush Green, London.


George A Romero to be honoured on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame

George RomeroIn fantastic news, George A Romero, the man who arguably made zombie films what they are today, has been confirmed as one of the recipients of a new star on Hollywood’s walk of fame this week. The 76-year-old director of Night of the Living Dead and many more zombie classics will take his place there in the coming months in recognition of his services to cinema.


Genre Film Anthology Southbound to Get August DVD Release

Brought to the screen by the team who produced the V/H/S trilogy, Southbound is a series of horror sequences all set on the same highway. Set for release on DVD 8 August, Southbound received great acclaim at this year’s Frightfest and drew comparisons made to The Twilight Zone for the creepy, atmospheric nature of the tails. The Horror Channel Announce Line-up for July

The Horror Channel

The Horror Channel has announced a series of UK Premieres to be aired in July, starting with Burning Bright (2010), which sees mayhem ensue as a tiger is set loose on a rich playboy’s estate. This month will also see Prey getting its UK TV premiere on Friday 15, with Wolf Creek 2 on the following evening. Cannibal Romance Tear Me Apart Now Available to Download

The artfully shot brother versus brother tale of a post-apocalyptic world is now available for download, here. Set in the rugged Cornish countryside, Tear me Apart is the tale of two brothers who have turned to cannibalism to stay alive. When a young woman enters their territory, though, the relationship is turned on its head as one is moved by feelings of love and the other of an entirely different type of hunger. Having won a series of awards, this could be one to check out.
