This Is Horror

News Round-up Week Ending 8 May 2026

Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week …

Out now from author David Sodergren and Paperbacks and Pugs, The Suffering

Atop a remote mountain in northern Italy rests the Sant’Arcangel convent, a sanctuary for women from all walks of life. On the cusp of winter, Dr Henrik Persson pays his final visit of the year. He cannot stay long, for a storm is coming that will shut the convent off from the outside world.
But when a young girl is found injured in the surrounding forest, the victim of a savage attack, Henrik decides to remain in the convent and nurse her back to health. It is, he believes, the correct thing to do.
But something has followed the girl to Sant’Arcangel. And once the snow begins to fall, the sinister presence will run rampant through the miserable corridors, bringing violent, bloody madness to all it touches. When all hope is lost, what remains is… The Suffering. Available now in eBook, hardcover, paperback and audiobook, you can pick up your copy here.

Released today from author S. Alessandro Martinez and Crystal Lake Publishing, The Witch of Tongues

After a tragic accident leaves her without her father—and without her right eye—twelve-year-old Lydia Ramirez is forced to start over in the small town of Relic’s Rest, Ohio.
New house. New school. New problems.
Lydia doesn’t want to be here. She doesn’t want new friends. And she definitely doesn’t want to deal with her cruel cousin.
But Relic’s Rest has secrets. Dark ones. Whispers of a witch named Adeliza Barrow still linger in the town’s history—a woman accused, betrayed, and punished long ago. Most people say it’s just a story. Until Lydia finds the grave. And wakes something that should have stayed buried. Now children are in danger.
A shadow moves through the town. Scissors whisper in the dark. And Adeliza Barrow has returned to finish what was started—taking from children what was taken from her. To stop her, Lydia must face her fears, uncover the truth behind the legend, and find the courage to stand up for herself—and for others. Because in Relic’s Rest … Some stories don’t stay buried. Available today in eBook and paperback, you can grab your copy here.

Transworld launches new horror imprint, 3AM Books

Transworld is launching Penguin Random House’s first horror imprint, 3AM Books, alongside an online community of the same name, creating a dedicated home for gripping, bold, genre-defining horror.

Led by Publishing Director Rachel Winterbottom alongside Editorial Director Simon Taylor, Editor Nicole Witmer and Assistant Editor Anna Carvanova, with marketing and publicity led by Marketing Executive Molly Openshaw, Press Officer Nina Lewis and Marketing Analyst Kimberley Knaggs, the imprint draws on a team deeply embedded in the genre.

Transworld has published some of the most iconic works in the genre, from William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist to Dan Simmons’ The Terror and Mark Z. Danielewski’s House of Leaves. 3AM Books builds on that legacy. With a logo designed by Leon Dufour to evoke that sense of creeping middle-of-the-night dread, the name 3AM Books takes its cue from the witching hour – the moment when the world feels most heightened, uncanny and like anything might happen. The list will reflect the full range and ambition of horror today, bringing together established voices, bold new talent and a growing community of readers.

The imprint launches in August 2026 with Fawn by debut author and journalist C. N. Vair, acquired by Nicole Witmer. Described as a feminist roar of a novel, rich with atmospheric dread, it follows a woman who refuses to be prey any longer. The launch list will also include Billie Host’s nostalgic swim team summer slasher Splasher, acquired by Anna Carvanova, and a reissue of The Exorcist, alongside a wider slate spanning everything from dark thriller and folk horror to femgore.
