News Round-up Week Ending 4 January 2019

Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week …

If It BleedsNew from Nightscape Press’ Charitable Chapbook line, If it Bleeds, by Matthew M. Bartlett

Recently featured in the advertising on the This is Horror podcast, If it Bleeds is a new charitable chapbook, written by Matthew M. Bartlett (Gateways to Abomination). A share of the proceeds from the beautifully illustrated chapbook will go to The Dakin Humane Society, a charity chosen by the author himself. The story revolves around a catchy song from way back when being spun on a radio station in Leeds, Massachusetts, with devastating results. The release is limited to one hundred copies and, at the time of writing, there remain only thirty-eight copies. Head over to Nightscape Press’ webshop to get your copy, here.

we shall be monstersNew from Renaissance Press, We Shall Be Monsters takes a broad look at Frankenstein, two hundred years on

Edited by Derek Newman-Stille, We Shall be Monsters is an anthology of short fiction, poetry, essays and articles, looking at the various themes found within Mary Shelley’s Modern Prometheus.  With content approaching themes of the original work as diverse as medical science, the thresholds of death and the exclusion of the outsider, this anthology aims to demonstrate the continuing relevance today of this most prescient of gothic horror novels. With more than twenty entries, by authors of richly diverse backgrounds of ethnicity, gender, ability and sexuality, this anthology presents a truly global perspective on Mary Shelley’s seminal work. Bracken MacLeod’s noir novella, White Knight, re-released with more of his noir and hard boiled crime stories

First published by One Eye Press, Bracken MacLeod has re-released his acclaimed hard-boiled crime novella, White Knight, repackaged with a number of his other crime tales, as White Knight and Other Pawns.  MacLeod has already shown with his collection, 13 Views of the Suicide Woods, in 2017, that he is comfortable writing in a variety of dark genres, as well as the horrors found in last year’s novel, Stranded, and so, for fans of the noir crime genre, White Knight and Other Pawns is sure to deliver. With other stories collected here previously appearing in Shock Totem,  Shotgun Honey and Beat to a Pulp, the quality of these stories is assured. Pick up your copy here.
