Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week …
Out now from author Buddy Beaudoin and Dead Sky Publishing, Corvus
Corvus follows Daryn Dall, a twenty-something Black gamer who’s spent most of his life carrying the grief of losing both parents―and escaping into the digital worlds he loves. He’s a nerd, a loner, and one of the best players on Earth at Quest 4 War, the planet’s most competitive war-strategy shooter. Maybe too good. His skills have drawn attention far beyond anything human. When a secretive, grassroots intergalactic resistance identifies Daryn as a strategic prodigy, their sentient ship―CORVUS―abducts him and drafts him into a war he never asked for. Their enemy: The Mare, a terrifying alien species whose psychic abilities force entire populations to relive their worst traumas on an endless loop, driving civilizations to collapse. Their only goal is annihilation. Trapped light-years from home, Daryn must confront his own buried pain while learning to fight a threat capable of turning memories into weapons. As the galaxy’s last line of defense, he’ll have to decide whether he’s willing to rise to the role others see in him―or watch humanity fall. Coming 14 April from author Eric T. Eichinger and Castle Bridge Media, Blood of the Mazzaroth
A clergyman becomes precariously involved in the murder of a college student whose remains have traces of the way the infamous Zodiac killer terrorized Southern California – and the nation. But wasn’t that case solved years ago? The startling fact: No, it was not! LAPD investigators, who badly need Rev. Dr. Chase Fischer’s expertise in ancient history, form an unorthodox arrangement with him to lure the killer out of hiding, and end a potential spree. Will this unlikely alliance finally be able to solve an ancient mystery? Leave it open as they found it? Or is something new and more sinister disturbingly afoot? Available for pre-order now in eBook and paperback, you can guarantee your copy here.
Availalable now from author Luna Asli Kolcu, The Hospitality
Every Saturday, Marcus’s family hosts guests no one can remember. The closer he gets to the truth, the more his mother begins to disappear. For twenty-six years, the guests have come to dinner. No one can remember their faces.
When Marcus Ashford returns to his childhood home, he expects strained reunions and unfinished conversations. What he doesn’t expect is the gap in his memory: a lifelong tradition of weekly dinners with “old family friends” he can’t picture. Can’t name. Can’t recall at all, no matter how hard he tries.
The house is unchanged. The table is always set for six. Something in the walls remembers what the family refuses to name.
Marcus begins to notice small things that are not quite right. Guests who never eat. Reflections that lag. Shadows bending the wrong way. Wine glasses that stay full no matter how much is poured. His mother has spent decades protecting this household from a truth too dangerous to speak aloud. Every question has a cost. Curiosity gets paid for in blood. In memory. In pieces of yourself you don’t notice missing.
Some houses are haunted. This one is obligated. Available now in eBook and paperback, you can pick up yours here.
