Look Out For … You Will Love What You Have Killed by Kevin Lambert

“Early buzz says this dark, comedic novel about supernatural revenge and retribution is one you don’t want to miss.”

Chicoutimi, Quebec can be a dangerous place, especially for children.

Faldistoire knows this. His grandfather thinks he’s a ghost. His mother reads tarot, and uses the occult to conjure storm clouds to dispense her particular kind of justice. But it’s Faldistoire’s father, the strangely named Kevin Lambert, who always seems to be around when bad things happen. He hides his dark designs behind a ‘Dad of the Year’ facade.

Kevin digs small graves in the cemetery.

The children, victims of rape and senseless murder, keep rising from the grave. They return to the world, to home and school, watching the adults relentlessly, plotting their ultimate retribution.

Why we’re excited about this book:

Kevin Lambert is one of the more controversial writers out of Quebec working today. Author of Tu aimeras ce que tu as tué and Querelle de Roberval, You Will Love What You Have Killed is his first English translation published (translated by Donald Winkler). Early buzz says this dark, comedic novel about supernatural revenge and retribution is one you don’t want to miss. Librairie Marie-Laura says: “Death lurks in the daily life of these mad children who form ambivalent friendships, initiate cruel vendettas and throw punches … This book is poisonously beautiful.”

Forthcoming from Biblioasis 6 October 2020, You Will Love What You Have Killed by Kevin Lambert is available for pre-order now.
