“Written from the heart, yet following his dark imagination into a world of the strange and bizarre, Richard’s debut collection is a must-read for horror fans.”
Born from excruciating grief.
Ripped raw from the heart.
These stories bleed, and that’s just the beginning.
To Wallow in Ash & Other Sorrows.
The debut story collection from Sam Richard.
Why we’re excited about the book:
Sam Richard is one of the rising stars of the weird/bizarro scene. The owner of Weirdpunk Books, Sam is the co-editor of The New Flesh: A Literary Tribute to David Cronenberg, co-editor of Hybrid Moments: A Literary Tribute to the Misfits, and the editor of Zombie Punks Fuck Off. His writing has appeared in Splatterpunk Zine, NihilismRevised’s Strange Behaviors Anthology, Breaking Bizarro, Clash Magazine, and Dark Moon Digest, among others. Written from the heart, yet following his dark imagination into a world of the strange and bizarre, Richard’s debut collection is a must-read for horror fans. Gwendoyln Kiste (author of The Rust Maidens) says: “To Wallow in Ash & Other Sorrows has … stories that will rip your heart right out of your chest … and it’s absolutely worth every moment.”
Why Sam’s excited about the book:
“While I am extremely excited for it to come out, the release of To Wallow in Ash & Other Sorrows brings with it a complex and conflicting series of emotions. Seven of the nine stories in the book were written in the wake of my wife’s sudden death due to an aortic aneurysm. This book is my shock, my grief, my pain, and my sorrow. I’m heartbroken that she’s gone, that along with a million other things, she also isn’t here to see the release of my first solo book, but I’m also damn proud of it. I’m proud that it exists, because if it didn’t—if I hadn’t written these stories when I did—I wouldn’t be here either. So in a weird way, I’m happy to share this sorrow with everyone who reads it, so it no longer feels like I have to carry it alone.”
To Wallow in Ash & Other Sorrows by Sam Richard is forthcoming from NihilismRevised and will be available 11 October 2019.
