FrightFest 2013 Film Review: Banshee Chapter 3D

Banshee Chapter

“Genuinely creepy; the fact that these experimental drugs exist adds an unsettling air to proceedings!”

Based on real documents, Banshee Chapter tells the story of an internet journalist’s investigation into the U.S government’s testing of a mind-altering drug in 1963. Since nobody appears to have the sense to leave these occurrences well alone, we’re invited along as Anne Roland hunts down those affected by the drug and the horrors it reveals. Banshee Chapter is genuinely creepy; the fact that these experimental drugs exist adds an unsettling air to proceedings. With a standout performance from Ted Levine as Thomas Blackburn, a homage to Hunter S. Thompson, Banshee Chapter is a good, tense film with a great script. Whether the 3D adds anything to the experience depends on the viewer, but the opening sequence with footage of actual interviews from the 1960s suggests otherwise.
