Long-term listeners of the This Is Horror Podcast may be aware that This Is Horror and Michael David Wilson have a tendency to embark on ambitious (read ‘downright stupid’) challenges from time-to-time. Last year there was the whole “let’s double Patreon support in 30 days” quest and earlier this year the 2017 One Story Per Week Writing Challenge commenced (click through to read about both on LitReactor). This April there’s a new challenge … enter the This Is Horror Extreme Summer of Podcasting.
What is the This Is Horror Extreme Summer of Podcasting?
From June–August we’ll be recording extra This Is Horror Podcast episodes as part of our Extreme Summer of Podcasting. Just how many episodes and how ‘extreme’ our podcasting output is in the Summer of 2017 will be determined by how many patrons we gain on the This Is Horror Podcast Patreon in April.
For every $10 or two patrons that pledge to the This Is Horror Podcast Patreon in April we’ll record an extra episode of the This Is Horror Podcast. The amount of episodes we record will be the higher of the two figures (dollars raised/patrons gained). So, if we receive an extra $100 in pledges and an extra sixteen patrons we will record ten extra episodes during the summer. Similarly if we receive an extra twenty patrons and an extra $75 we’re recording ten extra episodes.
Why pledge to the This Is Horror Podcast?
I like to think a lot of people pledge because they value the This Is Horror Podcast, the 140+ episodes we’ve put out, and they think it’s worth paying $1 per month for. But let’s be real, our Patreon would suck if we didn’t offer any additional perks as way of a thank you to all our great patrons. Here are the top three patron perks for just $1:
- Exclusive ‘Patron Only’ episodes on craft and writing.
- At least 24-hour early bird access to every episode of the This Is Horror Podcast.
- Ask the This Is Horror Guest questions as part of the interview.
That last one is perhaps the best bonus of all because you get to be involved in the conversation and ask anything you want.
If you want to find out about the other perks at $1 and other levels of support just check out the This Is Horror Podcast Patreon and whilst you’re there why not watch our video with testimonials from the likes of Stephen Graham Jones, Richard Thomas, David Moody, and many other familiar faces.
When will extra episodes of the This Is Horror Podcast air?
All extra episodes of the This Is Horror Extreme Summer of Podcasting will air in June, July, and August.
Can I listen to the extra episodes even if I don’t support the This Is Horror Podcast on Patreon?
Hell yes you can. But if you can afford it we’d love you to pledge, to ask questions of the interviewees, and to help make this challenge absolutely nuts!
How many patrons and how much money pledged did you start with?
We started April with 81 patrons and $515.
Will patrons and money gained in May and throughout the summer count towards extra episodes?
Unfortunately not, due to scheduling and recording episodes we need to know how many podcasts we’re recording ahead of the Extreme Summer of Podcasting.
So get ready for the This Is Horror Extreme Summer of Podcasting. How extreme? You decide. But one thing’s for sure, podcasting just got EXTREME.
