The Cutting Room: You Are Not Alone

An idyllic summer day turns into a living nightmare…

With school finally over, college graduate Natalie Wilner returns to her hometown to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend. But beneath the flags and fireworks lurks a dark, malevolent figure. After a night of drunken parties, she stumbles home and drifts off to sleep, only to be woken moments later by a loud knock on the door.

Experience one night of terror, through Natalie’s eyes as she fights to escape a relentless, knife-wielding maniac…

Why we’re looking forward to this: An American holiday, a serial killer, a girl returning home after several years away….yes, of course we’ve seen this all before, and yes, we always come back for more, but You Are Not Alone is actually bringing something new to the table in that it is shot entirely from the point of view of the final girl.

You may be thinking that this sounds like another found footage movie, and to an extent you may be right, but the opportunity to actually experience a day and night of terror at the hands of a psychopath through the eyes of a mythical final girl makes You Are Not Alone a film that we here at This Is Horror are curious about (and we won’t even watch part of it with a handy cushion in case it gets too intense, such is our dedication to the genre).

Hopefully there won’t be too many shots of Nathalie’s hands washing dishes or knitting scarves, and plenty of her running full tilt from a homicidal maniac and wielding an obligatory kitchen knife in order to defend herself from him (or her, we’re all for equality), but either way it’ll make a refreshing original outlook on the well serviced slasher flick.

You Are Not Alone is out from Sharp Teeth Films on DVD on 22 February 2016.
