Halloween Michael Myers

Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week…

John Carpenter on board for New Halloween Reboot

Thirty eight years after the original film’s release, Halloween is to receive a new reboot, this time with John Carpenter himself on board as executive producer. Miramax have pulled off something of a coup in bringing back Carpenter and Malek Akkad, who worked as producer on Halloween: Twenty years later, Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009) to the franchise. More news on the tenth film in the series, as we have it.

Manchester’s Northern Quarter to be Setting for New Psychological Horror Flick Habit

Habit Manchester Grimmfest

Based on the novel by Stephen McGeagh, the film adaptation of Habit will begin filming in the coming weeks in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Using the back streets and alleys of the area as a means to capture “the way it used to be” interior settings will be shot at Salford’s Pie Factory studios. Casting will also be largely local, lending the entire production a Mancunian vibe. Starring Jessica Barden of Penny Dreadful & The Lobster along with Andrew Ellis of This is England and more, the four week shoot has already began, with the premiere lined up for the 2017 edition of Grimmfest.

Supernatural Possession Thriller Series Outcast to Hit Screens Next Week

Outcast

After last week’s Facebook simulcast, next Friday, 3 June, will bring us the TV premiere of Outcast. Based on the comic book series of the same name by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, the pilot episode saw us following the story of an outcast, Kyle, returning to the scene of his suffering at the hands of his possessed mother as a child. Featuring some genuinely traumatising scenes of unnatural, possession-based phenomena, Outcast looks to be one to watch. You can follow updates on the official Facebook page, here.

Madhouse

Portland, Oregon’s Dark Regions Press has just released a new horror anthology with a difference. Every story in the collection, while written by a different author, is set in the same asylum, during a sandstorm. Adorned with some beautifully realised artwork by artist Aeron Alfrey, Madhouse is available now direct from the publisher or from Amazon. Full details of the anthology can be found here.
