News Round-up Week Ending 5 January 2018

Here’s a small selection of the horror and genre news that caught our eye during the last week …

Gathering-evilA Gathering of Evil, out now from Comet Press

Written by Gil Valle, author of 2017’s Raw Deal, and renowned as the ‘Cannibal Cop’ after his wrongful arrest by federal agents for plotting to kidnap, kill and eat women in 2012, A Gathering of Evil has been described as a book which makes even fans and editors of extreme horror squirm. The novel is the story of two New York women who, unbeknownst to them, have been targeted by a sadistic gang who want to kidnap and kill them. The book is co-written with Brian Whitney who also worked with Valle on Raw Deal, the book was released yesterday from Comet Press. You can get hold of your copy here.


Linda AddisonLinda Addison wins the Horror Writers Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for 2017

The Horror Writers Association announced yesterday that the poet and writer, Linda Addison has won the 2017 Lifteim Achievement Award. The award will be presented at 2018’s Stokercon, in Providence, Rhode Island. She has already clocked up a highly impressive four Bram Stoker Awards and was the first African-American to do so. Her award winning works include Consumed, Reduced to Beautiful Grey Ashes (2001) and How to Recognize a Demon Has BEcome Your Friend (2011). You can learn more about her work at her website, here.


Last CallZombie novel, Last Call, by Matthew Gilman, out now

Originally written as a novella for Infected Books’ zombie contest, where it won an honourable mention from the judges, Matthew Gilman has since extended the book into a full novel, which is available now. The story is set in the not-too-distant future, where zombie outbreaks are commonplace but containable. The United States’ congress has legislated against the infected, creating a world where they are victims of human trafficking and the police turn a blind eye. Then a policeman’s former lover comes to report her missing child, causing him to realise the child may be his and sending him and his partner on a dangerous journey into the murky underworld.
