Spectral Press have announced the upcoming release of the first installation of James Everington’s serial The Quarantined CityThe Smell of Paprika will soon be available to download as an ebook from Amazon. The story follows Fellows, a man left inside the quarantined city, whose life consists of hunting rare books and trying to ignore ghost who haunts his flat. For Fellows, life continues as normal until he comes across a story by the elusive writer, Boursier. It is only then that he finds that there may be more to the city than meets the eye. FrightFest unveils full line-up for Glasgow Film Festival

The line-up for Film4’s FrightFest at this year’s Glasgow Film Festival has now been unveiled. The annual season of horror films kicks off this year on Thursday February 26 with the UK premiere of Hammer Horror film of the Edgar Allan Poe’s Eliza Graves, starring Kate Beckinsale, Jim Sturgess, Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley. The line-up also includes Clown (produced by Eli Roth), and the UK premiere of [REC]: Apocalypse. Tickets are on sale now at just £70 for the full festival, which includes entry to every film. It Follows

The first full UK trailer for highly-anticipated horror film It Follows, is now available to view prior to the film’s opening in cinemas across Ireland and the UK on Friday February 27. Directed by David Robert Mitchell and starring Maika Monroe, the breakout film from Cannes Film Festival 2014 has been long-awaited by horror lovers across Britain.

Spectral Press Acquisitions

Spectral Press have recently announced a number of upcoming publications. In addition to Gary McMahon’s, The Grieving Stones, which we announced last week, the press will also be releasing Angela Slatter’s latest novella, The Witch’s Slade.  Spectral have also revealed their plans to reissue Mark Samuel’s collection. Glyphotech and Other Macabre Processes,  which has been out of print for some time.  Originally published by PS Publishing, the collection will now be reprinted in paperback with a new cover and bonus stories.

Simon Kurt Unsworth signing at Forbidden Planet, Liverpool

On Saturday 14 March at 1pm, Simon Kurt Unsworth will be launching his new novel, The Devil’s Detective, at the Forbidden Planet in Liverpool. The book is available to pre-order now for the release date on Thursday 12 March. Alternatively, those attending the signing can purchase the book from the store on the day.

James Herbert Award short-list announced

The short-list for the inaugural James Herbert Award has been announced. The winner will be chosen from The Girl With All The Gifts by MR Carey, The Troop by Nick Cutter, Cuckoo Song by Frances Hardinge, Bird Box by Josh Mallerman, The Loney by Andrew Michael Hurley, and Kim Newman’s An English Ghost Story. With James Herbert’s daughter among the names on the panel, the winner will be announced at the end of March.
